Fire Audit and Risk Assessment
An essential element of any safety management system is the audit process. The performance of key elements of a fire safety management system should be periodically audited to ensure continual improvement in the management of fire safety. The emphasis is on an organization to demonstrate that it has fulfilled legal duties as set out in the fire safety legislation.
We audit the following areas for evidence of fire safety management:
- The fire risk assessment
- Action plans related to significant findings of the fire risk assessment
- Emergency evacuation plans
- Means of escape – including horizontal and vertical escape.
Basic Fire Fighting Awareness Training
Once the client has the appropriate fire fighting equipment installed, it is recommended that you have your staff trained in basic fire equipment use and emergency evacuation procedures.
It is now a by-law requirement that this as well as fire drills be done at least annually.
The proposed fire awareness training is normally a 2-3 hour session for up to 20 participants and culminates in a practical live demonstration.
In the theory session, the participants are introduced to the various fire fighting equipment, the different classes of fire and evacuation procedures.
By the time they go for practical demonstration, they will have known which extinguisher is used to fight which class of fire.
Fire drills
Following successful training of the staff on the above – fire drills should be conducted regularly at intervals not exceeded once a year.
The purpose of a fire drill is to practice the swift removal of all building occupants to a safe area outside the building.
Drill records should be taken for each drill and kept safely for inspection by relevant authorities.
